Dr Carlos García-Fajardo Palacios
Dr Carlos García-Fajardo Palacios is a medical dentist, oral surgeon and the third generation of his family to practise at Clínica Fajardo.
His postgraduate training includes the Implant Course at the Department of Restorative Dentistry and Biomaterials Sciences at Harvard School of Dental Medicine in Boston in 2006. He also completed postgraduate training in the diagnosis and treatment of temporomandibular joint disorders and orofacial pain at Centro Médico Teknon in Barcelona.
His professional work has included teaching advanced oral surgery courses in collaboration with the Department of Anatomy and Embryology at the University of Barcelona, teaching implantology courses in Porto and Lisbon and collaborating scientifically with the Implantology Master’s programme of the Department of Surgery at the University of Santiago de Compostela.
Dr García-Fajardo has also lectured at universities and professional congresses and has published scientific articles and three books related to medicine and dentistry. His most recent book, Cirugía Oral y Odontología, was published in Madrid in 2024.
Dental implant planning at Clínica Fajardo
Implant treatment at Clínica Fajardo is planned individually rather than around a single implant system for every patient.
Factors such as the patient’s age, available bone, number of implants required and the type of implant connection are considered before the implant is selected. The clinic works with different implant manufacturers so the surgical team can select an implant according to the individual clinical situation.
For more complex cases, 3D imaging is used to assess the available bone and reconstruct the maxillary anatomy before treatment.

- autologous bone grafting;
- bone graft materials combined with the patient’s own bone;
- resorbable collagen or non-resorbable PTFE membranes;
- concentration of growth factors from the patient’s own blood in selected cases.
Where conventional implant positions are restricted by severe bone loss, the clinic also assesses more advanced anatomical solutions, including pterygoid or zygomatic implant placement where clinically appropriate.
The need for any of these procedures can only be determined after examination and three-dimensional assessment of the jaw.
Dental aesthetics: zirconia and lithium disilicate
Restorative work at Clínica Fajardo has a strong focus on modern ceramic materials rather than relying solely on conventional metal-based restorations.
Zirconia is used for highly aesthetic dental prosthetics where strength, fit and a natural appearance are important.
For veneers and anterior restorations, lithium disilicate is one of the clinic’s preferred materials because it combines translucency with mechanical resistance.
The restorative workflow also incorporates CAD-CAM technology and prosthetic interfaces. The clinic works with a dental laboratory where particular attention is given to the fit, contour and natural appearance of the final restoration.
Treatment is therefore planned around the individual tooth, bite, surrounding tissue and aesthetic requirements rather than selecting a restoration only according to its colour.
Temporomandibular joint and orofacial pain care
Clínica Fajardo also has a dedicated clinical area for the diagnosis and treatment of temporomandibular joint disorders.
Dr García-Fajardo’s postgraduate training includes temporomandibular pathology and orofacial pain, and this remains an important part of the practice.
Assessment may be appropriate for patients experiencing problems such as jaw clicking, restricted opening, persistent facial or preauricular pain, headaches associated with jaw function, muscular tension or problems related to bruxism and occlusion.
Treatment is determined according to the cause of the problem. Depending on the diagnosis, this may involve correction of occlusal interference, management of bruxism, oral splints, rehabilitation of missing teeth, orthodontic considerations or other therapeutic measures.
Conscious sedation for selected dental procedures
Conscious sedation is available for selected patients and procedures.
During sedation, the clinic’s protocol includes monitoring the patient’s cardiac activity and oxygen saturation with pulse oximetry throughout the procedure. A recovery period is required after treatment, and patients undergoing sedation should arrange to leave the clinic accompanied.
This option can be particularly relevant when extensive surgical treatment is planned or when a patient finds longer dental procedures difficult to tolerate.

Three generations of dentistry in A Coruña
Clínica Fajardo has an unusually long connection with the same part of A Coruña.
The practice traces its history at Cantón Grande back to the 1930s. The first generation was Dr Carlos García Fajardo, followed by Dr Carlos García-Fajardo Colín, who also served as head of Maxillofacial Surgery at the former Hospital Juan Canalejo in A Coruña.
The current medical director, Dr Carlos García-Fajardo Palacios, represents the third generation.
A piece of the clinic’s early dental equipment from around 1950 is still preserved in the waiting area, providing a physical link between the historical practice and today’s digitally planned dentistry.
