• Refractive Surgery – Get rid of your glasses
What is a refractive defect?
It is an alteration that produces blurred vision that improves when using glasses, contact lenses or with the 100% laser refractive surgery offered by Clínica Oftalmológica del Caribe.
The human eye works in a very similar way to what a camera does. To see clearly you need to focus. This is achieved thanks to the convergent power of the cornea and the lens. When the image is not properly focused on the retina, what we call a refractive defect occurs.
What is refractive surgery?
Refractive surgery is the procedure that allows the correction of refractive defects such as: myopia (Near-sightedness), hyperopia (Farsightedness), astigmatism and eye strain or presbyopia. Currently, Clinica Oftalmologica del Caribe (COFCA) offers you refractive surgery with a femtosecond laser.
• Catarcas
Result of a natural change that occurs inside the eye, a gradual clouding that over time can make your sight less accurate.
The eye works very similar to a camera, and like a camera, it depends on a transparent lens to correctly focus the images. A healthy, transparent lens absorbs light and focuses it correctly on the retina (the back of the eye), and consequently provides a clear and clear image.
As we get older, the crystalline proteins begin to clump together and form opaque groups. Over time, these groups of proteins will sooner or later cloud the lens, which will cause a significantly less amount of light to pass through. The small amount of light that is passed to the retina is diffuse or scattered, which leaves the vision out of focus. These groups of proteins can also change the coloration of the lens, which is normally transparent, and dye it a brownish tone that affects the perception of color.
• Retina and Vitreous
A variety of conditions that can affect the vitreous and retina that are in the back of the eye that is not easily visible, such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal detachment or tears, macular holes, retinopathy of the premature, retinoblastoma, uveitis, eye cancer, flashes and floaters and retinitis pigmentosa.
• Glaucoma
Although it is often believed that it is a health problem of older adults, the fact is that glaucoma can appear at an early age. People at risk are those who have parents or relatives with the same condition. Headaches may be a symptom of this disorder
Group of diseases that cause damage of the optic nerve, loss of visual field and progression towards BLINDNESS if it is not controlled.
The most important risk factor is the increase in intraocular pressure.
It occurs in 2% of the population over 40 years.
Glaucoma is generally caused by an imbalance between the production and elimination of aqueous humor. This is a liquid that fills the interior and posterior chambers of the eye and fulfills a similar function to blood, but has the advantage of being transparent to allow the passage of light.
• Oftalmopediatria
Eye problems can start at an early age. Sadly, most of them go unnoticed because children can not compare a healthy vision to a defective one
• Ocular Plastic Surgery
Physicians with combined training in ophthalmic plastic surgery and ophthalmology have unique abilities to perform a series of delicate procedures around the eyes by taking advantage of opportunities to aesthetically improve the patient’s appearance. This set of skills complements the experience of each sub-specialist in ophthalmology and makes an important contribution to the services of specialists in other medical disciplines.
Cosmetic surgery is generally perceived as a “beautification” procedure and not as repairing a physical defect.
• Neurophthalmology
Neuro-ophthalmology is an ophthalmic subspecialty that addresses the relationship between the eye and the brain, specifically disorders of the optic nerve, orbit, and brain, associated with visual symptoms. Today, neuro-ophthalmologists provide comprehensive clinical care to a broad spectrum of patients with vision disorders due to diseases of the optic nerve, central nervous system, ocular motility dysfunction and pupillary abnormalities.
